Who We Are
The Sofia Luna Azzola Foundation was founded in 2016 by the Azzola family, owners of the Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa in Kendwa. Driven by a deep love for Zanzibar and its people, the Foundation was created to offer opportunities that improve the lives of local communities and support vulnerable groups across the island.
What We Do
Over the years, the Foundation has worked closely with schools and orphanages, enhancing facilities such as computer rooms, classrooms, and toilets, and providing essential learning materials. Every single dollar donated goes entirely to our projects administrative and operational costs are covered by members and volunteers.
Our Achievements
2019 was a very successful year for the organization, as we were able to build an entirely new kindergarten in Kendwa village and provide teachers’ wages, school uniforms, and materials for 200 children. In 2022, the Foundation inaugurated the first school in Kendwa, a newly built kindergarten created through our ongoing social commitment to improve learning environments for children. In 2023, a second school was opened near Pongwe Bay, following renovation works carried out by the Foundation to enhance the educational conditions for young students. All this is possible thanks to the support and generosity of our guests, partners, and loyal supporters.
